Literature Text

While wandering in a far away place

I saw this other person’s face

He tried to tell me in this rhyme

About some other land and time

About a stone where a king once stood

To proclaim these words to all he could

“I’m here to stay, you bloody fools

So while you live here learn my rules.”

We don’t know what these rules did say

For all the writing’s rubbed away

And is there any message here?

Some hidden meaning, soon laid clear?

I don’t know- we’ll have to see

This is the hazard of parody.
A poem I found while going through my old files. I think it's from 2006 or something. :XD: Really old, as far as I'm concerned. But it's still one of my favorites.

You get cookie-points if you can tell me which poem I'm parodying here.

(And a free commission if you can tell me what the title means, because that would put you on the same level of Literature nerdly-ness as me, and therefore someone to celebrate and honor with gifts of goodwill.)

Happy figuring! :D

It's now one of my favorites too. Sort of reminds me of the song "One Tin Soldier Rides Away".
